Japan Jewellery Designers Association (JJDA) is an organization comprised of professional jewellery designers. The Association was established in 1964 as a voluntary association intent on promoting the artistic relevance of jewellery design. JJDA became an incorporated body in 1988. JJDA has been aiming to contribute to Japanese economy and enrich people’s lives through jewellery design.
JJDA aims at promoting an exchange of knowledge and experience among national and international jewellery designers as well as with those in other creative disciplines. As a result of such an exchange, JJDA hopes to enrich the creative skills of the designers and thus create a higher standard in jewellery design.
JJDA has been involved in a wide range of activities including research, exhibitions, it has been an avid contributor to seminars, it has been involved in work pertaining to the protection of copyrights, public relations and education.
JJDA members include prominent leaders renowned for their skills and expertise in the fields of art, education and jewellery design.
With their combined talents, JJDA members are able to focus and work on activities relevant to the social, environmental and economic contexts in which they exist.
While JJDA has been pursuing perfection in jewellery design, they maintain involvement in its community and strive at being an active and positive community member, economically and socially.
JJDA Activities
Research
- Improving techniques and raising awareness of jewellery design through seminars and workshops.
- Updating a data base as well as a collection of unique and representative jewellery designs in order to prevent traditional and contemporary designs from scattering.
Exhibitions and seminars
- Organizing national and international exhibitions that displays the work of both JJDA members and jewellery designers from abroad.
- Inviting guest speakers for seminars.
Research and enlightening activities on the protection of design copyrights
- Publishing books such as "Guidance for Making-up Contract" with specimens of contracts between designers and clients, and "For the Protection of Design Copyright".
- Participating in a design copyright protection workshop and publishing a book entitled "Design and Copyright" from workshop.
- Organizing seminars on the examples of imitation and the counter measures, by inviting lawyers.
Public Relations activities to inform members and non-members of JJDA's activities
- Publication of organization bulletin "JJDA" (annual)
- Publication of newsletter "FROM JJDA" for all JJDA members (monthly)
- Publication of "Jewellery Designers in Japan" as JJDA 40th Anniversary's commemorative publication
Exchanges with other organizations, and promotion of collaboration activities
Sending Japanese jewellery designs to the world
- Organizing overseas exhibitions to deepen exchange with overseas designers
- Participating in overseas jewellery fairs
Fostering of new jewellery designers
- Holding "Japan Jewellery Art Competition" every two years to provide opportunities to new qualified jewellery designers.
- Studying concepts of jewellery design in drawings and realizing them through competitions and other opportunities.
- On request, JJDA members will be sent to schools or groups to give lectures and technical guidance.
Regional projects
- Carrying out regional projects for the promotion of jewellery design and communication between local citizens and JJDA.
